Space is a major limiting factor in cities, and in most cases, the only way is up. But building skyscrapers comes with the age-old problem of powering up the entire building’s energy needs. With a concept design called the Wind Tower by British architects David Arnold and Alexa Ratzlaff, you won’t have to worry about energy, because it will all be coming from the wind.

The concept design involves building in a wind turbine on the roof of a skyscraper in a strange format that might just work. Instead of windmill-like structures, the wind turbine is built within a spiraling megastructure that’s shaped to use prevailing wind currents no matter what the direction. The tower’s center contains the turbine and the power storage units. Around this core structure is a spiral that will contain various commercial and business establishments. The concept behind the 45-meter tower is that it should be able to power up the building, or 2,000 households, in a sustainable manner.
