Japan, the “Land of the Rising sun” has a unique history of architectural developments, with its roots buried deep in the Chinese architecture from where it draws its most of its inspiration and form. However, with time there have been astounding and significant variations indigenous to Japan, giving this island country in East Asia its rich architectural history. Hence from Phoenix Hall at Bydoin built in the 11th century to White Heron castle in Hyogo from Momoyama period (17th century) to Tokyo station in 20th century and finally the skyscrapers of Shinjuku, Tokyo, the Japanese infrastructural development has grown by leaps and bounds. Also, the devastation caused in the World War II that paved way for rebuilding the country, proved a great stimulus to the modern Japanese architecture that adorns the cities of the nation.
However, the widespread urban planning or apparently, bizarre avant-garde architectural outcomes seems to have had strange consequences on quite a few buildings around Japan. These concrete structures around the cities leave people amazed, this time, not because of their incredible design but their surprisingly slim stature. These slimmest buildings that are clamped between two buildings like a cheese slice inside a sandwich or fit in at some little corner of the city; leave people bewildered imagining the plight of its inhabitants that are bound to stay slim to be its resident.
So take a look at some of the weirdly slim claustrophobic structures of Japan that sre sure to leave you speechless for some moments.
