Bates Masi + Architects have designed a wonderful modern residence that they have named Pryor House. Located in Montauk, New York, the home sits atop a hill. Built for a couple and their two young boys, the residence encompasses all the comfort and modern lifestyle seen in urban spaces without the actual urban background. Capturing distant views of the ocean, the Pryor House opens up to multiple outdoor areas in an effort to connect as much as possible to the surroundings. Large sliding doors connect different rooms of the house to the outside entertaining areas, like the terraces, beach equipment area, outdoor shower, sand and mudroom. Pocket walls all over the house hide sliding doors that make the spaces bigger and allow the family and guests to interact with all the spaces as they please. Thirty-six feet wide glass doors protect the double height living, dining and kitchen from the outside, but it also offers an amazing opportunity to create seamless spaces once the doors are opened. Layers of bronzed metal fabric on the windows adjust the brightness and temperature of the living spaces.

Assembled from prefabricated materials, the Pryor House proudly displays sustainable features like the geo-thermal heating and cooling, shading and ventilation systems, solar panels and the materials used to build it. Beautifully designed and with an amazing floor-plan, the residence is a functional architectural dream, don’t you think?
